Mission Statement

SimDrive (simulator driver training)provides high quality, convenient and comprehensive driver education. The most important aspect of driver education is SAFETY.  SimDrive’s mission is to have SimDrive graduates with the safest driving records of any other competitor in South Africa. Thereby improving road safety and saving lives.

Simulator Driving

SimDrive; Simulator driver training provides a ground breaking process that will change the face of driver training in South Africa. As a result of inadequate road safety for both pedestrians and drivers alike, SimDrive (simulator driver training) aims to train novice drivers before they venture onto public roads by means of a car driving simulator. A Simulator is a device which places individuals in a situation which resembles real life driving.  SimDrive has the technology, capacity, people and agreements in place to make a difference. We have the knowledge and drive to make a difference to driver education, in a safe, stress free environment for all learners, thereby making our roads safer for all. SimDrive provides simulator driver training for motor vehicles, busses and trucks from code 08 to code 14.

History and Current Status

SimDrive (simulator driver training) has been in operation since 2011. Simulator training is not new; it has been used in the aviation industry for years.  After extensive research a suitable car driving simulator was identified that has already been adapted for South African conditions and the K53 driving test.

SimDrive has negotiated with various schools to provide simulator driver training from the schools premises. Some of these are Crawford Sandton, Crawford Lonehill, Trinityhouse School, Curro Aurora, Linden Hoër, Orion College and Monash University. A new contract has given SimDrive access to a further 34 schools in Gauteng for 2013. All these schools are in more affluent areas, both private and previous model C schools.

SimDrive furthermore provides driver assessments, pre-employment assessments and remedial training for licensed drivers of companies who want to validate their current and potential future drivers abilities as well as those of their customers.  SimDrive customers include shuttle service companies, insurance companies and companies caring for the disabled.

Goals and Objectives

SimDrive’s goal is to be the preferred service provider of driver education to schools, universities, corporates and general public.  SimDrive (simulator driver training) will change the way driver training is provided in South Africa. No person should be allowed to drive on public roads unless they have completed a simulator driving course.  SimDrive is striving to work with government departments to change current legislation to accommodate simulator driver training at learner’s license stage in a Graduated Learner Program.

Critical Success Factors and Partnerships

SimDrive (simulator driver training) has a critical advantage above traditional driving schools in the safety factor that simulation provides.  SimDrive educates and trains new drivers before they actually start driving on public roads. There exists a need to introduce a driver training model that will increase the driving skill of new drivers. Research done by the ‘American National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’ showed that driving simulation can drastically increase the quality and safety of training new drivers.

SimDrive will seek strategic partnerships with specific industry players that will complement the services offered by SimDrive, at the same time promoting the partners product. One such partnership has already been established with Chevrolet, South Africa. Chevrolet has sponsored two Chevrolet vehicles. These vehicles are used to aid the learner in the transition from simulator driving to on-road driving and additional on road experience.  In sponsoring these vehicles Chevrolet is not only contributing to the youth development, education and road safety, but also gaining possible new customers. This may then lead to brand loyalty and vehicles sales for Chevrolet.

Corporate Social Responsibility

SimDrive (simulator driver training) already provides driver training to designated school’s staff, as well as learners from the Thandanani school in Zandspruit.  SimDrive would like to expand this program to as many underprivileged learners in less affluent schools in South Africa.  The use of mobile platforms gives SimDrive the ability to take driver training to the schools where the learners are. For this SimDrive is seeking further strategic partner, to become involved is driver training and sponsoring these youths driver training.

The risks are simulated, but the benefits are real!
